I am a Chinese American bilingual (English and Cantonese) licensed clinical psychologist in Oakland, California, and I received my Doctor of Psychology degree from John F. Kennedy University. My education and clinical training both emphasized multi-cultural and diversity issues such as age, gender, class, socioeconomic status, race, ethnic identity, education, and disability.

Treatment models:   In the therapy process, I incorporate a variety of treatment models including solution-focused brief therapy, relational therapy, family systems therapy, psychodynamically-oriented therapy, behavioral therapy, or cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT). The duration of therapy may be long-term or brief depending on the client’s needs and the appropriate therapy modality.

Experience with individuals and groups:  I work with children, adolescents, adults, couples, families, and groups — providing therapy for a range of life issues. I also provide training in social skills, coping skills needed in divorced families with children, as well as support for individuals who have survived a suicide of someone significant in their lives. (Although individual therapy is always an option, the last two topics are particularly effective in group therapy, where members can support each other, share information and feel less isolated.)

Community mental health experience:   I have had extensive training working in community mental health agencies, focusing on issues such as depression, anxiety, panic disorder, psychosis, cognitive impairments, parenting skills training, eating disorders, and chronic mental conditions such as schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.

Bilingual English/Cantonese:  I have also worked collaboratively with the Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB) as a behavior consultant for autistic children/adults and their parents/care providers in Cantonese-speaking families for a number of years.

Business Experience:   Prior to becoming a psychologist, I was a Certified Public Accountant in the Bay Area for eight years, acting both as an auditor and a tax accountant for individuals, sole proprietors, partnerships, and corporations. When my children grew into their teens, I began to pursue my lifelong passion for psychology. As a licensed psychologist, I am able to make a more direct, positive, and meaningful difference in people’s lives and in the health of groups and organizations.
